Membership Requirements

In the Junior League of Greensboro, each membership stage—Provisional, Active, and Sustainer—comes with its own set of requirements and responsibilities. As members progress through these stages, they transition from initial training and engagement (Provisional) to full participation and leadership (Active), and finally to a supportive, mentoring role (Sustainer). Each stage is designed to build on previous experiences, ensuring that members contribute effectively while aligning with their evolving capacities and interests.

Provisional Members

When you join the Junior League of Greensboro, you commit to a provisional period. Your time as a provisional will begin with your provisional orientation. Once you have met all requirements, you will be voted into active status at the next General Membership Meeting. As a provisional, you will strive to meet certain goals that focus on facilitating engagement within the community and the organization, as a whole:

  • Pay annual dues plus one-time membership fee (Total: $276 for the Fall, $201 for the Spring)
    • Credit Card: Via Member Essentials or email us to receive a personal invoice
    • Venmo: @JLGreensboro (put “Provisional Dues” in the memo)
    • Check: Mail to Junior League of Greensboro (3101 West Friendly Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27408)
  • Attend provisional orientation
  • Attend provisional meetings
  • Attend General Membership Meetings (GMMs). All GMMs include a one-hour social (optional) and a one-hour business meeting during which all membership voting and business is transacted, including valuable training about leadership topics, information about the Greensboro community, and information about JLG events.
  • Complete a volunteer placement
  • Work three volunteer shifts at the Bargain Box

Active Members

Active members are those members who have successfully completed the provisional member requirements. Active members may choose to work in a committee placement focused on the community or to serve on an internal League committee placement. Placements typically run from June 1 – May 31, which aligns with our fiscal year, but most of the work occurs in September through May. Leadership positions are also available.

  • Pay annual dues ($150)
    • Credit Card: Via Member Essentials or email us to receive a personal invoice
    • Venmo: @JLGreensboro (put “Active Dues” in the memo)
    • Check: Mail to Junior League of Greensboro (3101 West Friendly Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27408)

  • Attend Committee meetings and/or Board meetings (as applicable)
  • Support our thrift store, The Bargain Box, with volunteer hours (3 shifts/year) and donation of gently used clothing and/or other goods with a value of $100 each year
  • Support JLG projects and fundraisers

Sustainer Members

After 7 years of active membership, a member is eligible to become a sustainer member. Sustainers have reduced annual dues requirements and are welcome to attend all meetings, fundraisers and community events but are not required to have a placement (although they may choose to sit on Active Committees as a Sustainer advisor.)
