Play with Purpose: Growing Healthy Futures is a new annual, family-centered community event designed to educate, engage, and activate the community around food insecurity and nutrition access. As one of two events designed to support JLG’s Greensboro EATS initiative, Play with Purpose will bring together families, nonprofit organizations, healthcare professionals, educators, and volunteers in a highly interactive environment.
The inaugural event will be held on October 11, 2026, at the Miriam P. Brenner Children’s Museum in downtown Greensboro. Play with Purpose is free to attend!
At the event, participants can explore four key learning zones designed for maximum engagement, education, and enjoyment:
Hands-on nutrition and food education activities, including:
Grocery budgeting challenges
Healthy cooking demonstrations
Interactive food education activities for children and families
Recipe and nutrition resource distribution
Food sustainability and gardening education through:
Gardening demonstrations
Seed giveaways
Composting and container gardening education
Direct community impact opportunities, including:
Community meal-packing activities
Volunteer engagement stations
Live impact tracking and hunger awareness displays
Community resource access through partnerships with:
Local nonprofits
Nutrition experts and pediatric dietitians
Resource navigation organizations
The event is expected to engage more than 500 attendees in its first year while increasing awareness, volunteerism, and community collaboration surrounding childhood hunger.
